This electronic testing apparatus is designed for British building materials and high iron flame retardant testing, conforming to BS 476-7 standards. The equipment determines the classification of surface flame spread for wall and ceiling products by measuring critical heat flux through controlled radiant heat exposure and flame ignition.
Samples are ignited in the combustion chamber using gas-fired radiant panels and medium-sized gas burners. The radiation intensity at 75mm distance is 32.5kW/m², with torch flame heights of 75-100mm applied to samples. Samples undergo 10 minutes of radiant heat exposure, with flame propagation levels recorded at 1.5 and 10 minutes. Results are classified into four grades, with higher grades indicating greater fire risk and restricted use in building materials.
